Luminscence Chamber Singers onstage at the Canberra International Music Festival
On 2 May, during the 2024 Canberra International Music Festival, Luminescence Chamber Singers performed an evening of Red Dirt Hymns to a capacity audience in the National Museum of Australia. Sixteen out of a total of twenty ‘hymns’ were performed by the six voices together with Freya Schack-Arnott (cello) and Hilary Geddes (electric guitar).
‘“This,” confided a friendly [Canberra International Music Festival] volunteer as I took my seat, “is going to be an absolute banger”.
‘She was not wrong. Luminescence Chamber Singers’ world-premiere performance of Andrew Ford’s new song cycle Red Dirt Hymns was one of the most purely enjoyable hours of music it’s been my pleasure to experience.’
