soprano, metal percussion
Commissioned by Julian Burnside for Jane Sheldon and Claire Edwardes
First performance by Jane Sheldon and Claire Edwardes, Port Fair Spring Music Festival, Reardon Theatre, Port Fairy, 13 October 2018
This piece is perhaps best thought of as music theatre, though there is no ‘action’ as such. I first read Anne Carson’s poems in the London Review of Books and they immediately suggested a soprano voice competing with a jangly percussive noise. The poems are used by kind permission of the poet.
